“The confirmation of my belief that I have a specific skill set and that my skills can help in their own way was really powerful, and learning about other people’s skills and thought processes was really helpful.” - Youth Climate Summit attendee
This week's blog is full of this's and that's. Small actions. Course Corrections. And New Communities. Sometimes this is where the 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle of life takes us.
As I sit here typing this in my backyard, I have clothes drying on a rack.
It may seem like a little thing or old fashioned thing, but it's pretty great.
The original solar power dryer!
Not only does it dry without electricity and wearing down any appliances...
It adds an extra layer of cleaning as the sun disinfects.
And the lingering smell of freshness is real. Not just a chemical cover up.
Whether a line in a backyard or rack on an apartment patio, give it a go with your next load while it's still summer here in the Northern Hemisphere.
During the Youth Climate Summit, I adapted two sample episodes from my "How on Earth?" pitch deck to lead an exercise.
By this time, they had already taken the quiz and were sitting with their similar types.
First I shared the protagonist and her question for the first episode. Then I revealed the 5 ideas that our hosts could suggest based on their archetype.
Next, I revealed the second episode protagonist and his question, but then asked the groups to come up with the suggestions.
After each group shared their idea, I decided to challenge their assumptions by showing the 5 suggestions I have in the deck.
The suggestion for the Embodiment type was challenged in return.
What did I suggest?
Breathwork.
"How does breathwork help?" one of the Embodiment youth asked.
Sadly, at the time my brain came up with some rather bad answers. I talked about being in tune with the water and air cycles as well as how world renowned humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar uses breathwork. After all, our protagonist isn't gonna do anyone any good if he's hyperventilating.
After kicking myself a bit, I thought about what I would have wanted to say...
Humanitarians throughout time have incorporated breathwork for all kinds of social moments. Whether that's Ghandi meditating in India, Nelson Mandela focusing in prison, MLK praying with every breath, or Sri Sri Ravi Shankar helping around the world.
OR....
Let me tell you about Jaime Bristow. He's part of the team that created the Inner Development Goals. Modeled after the UN's 17 Sustainability Goals, the system is full of 17 inner strength building practices to help give politicians the courage to do the right thing. He's been so successful, that he even got the UK Parliament to meditate before beginning the session.
OR (as suggested by a friend)...
How about we practice right now and see!

So I'm putting this out there. Hoping they read this newsletter.
None of us are gonna be perfect doing this work.
But with humility and bit of laughter, we can always do better.
I'm delighted to say that this week I joined an amazing community called Women and Climate.
In a satisfying full circle moment, I was introduced to them last year at NY Climate Week.
Now, I am on their speaker database of kick ass ladies to contact to speak at not only Climate Week but all year long!
From Carbon Emissions to Climate Storytelling, we represent a wide range of expertise and Earth Archetypes.
And I'm grateful to share about the Earth Archetypes in this way!
