“I'm a huge fan of your vision, Amber!” - Keith Ochwat
Have you every heard of Human Design? It's a system of mapping your body based on your birthday. Unlike a zodiac star alignment, it focuses on gates and pathways that would have been opened for you in this lifetime.
It's something I've studied a bit in the last couple years as it pertains to the source and style of my creative energy.
What's funny is that I was gifted a very in-depth experience of it. In fact, the facilitator commented that it was the longest he'd ever spent with someone. Then we discovered...he had the wrong map!
I was labeled a "Generator." Which seemed to fit my life up until that point, so I went with it. But the year was off in the calculation! According to this system, I am actually a "Manifestor."
The process felt symbolic, a turning point. A time when life was asking me to changing from generator mode to manifestor mode. Yet, I feel like I'm still growing into it.
This week, I'm showing some questions, awarenesses, and successes in that process...
Today school started here in Portland, OR.
Alarm clocks, backpacks, and fresh faces all come together for the first bell of the day.
As a former teacher, I remember it well.
So many plans.
So many ideas.
So many new connections.
I've also thought a lot over the years how I would be a much different teacher now.
Then I was aged 22-30 and was trying to step into a future I always dreamed would be magically better during my rough childhood.
Now, I"m in my late 40s and give less fucks, but also still learning and becoming the adult I want to be.
Also, climate change makes the future is uncertain in a different way.
And I'm getting to teach in a different way through Earth Archetypes.
So on this symbolic day, I'm wondering how to share more about climate and relationships in schools.
As a friend who road her motorcycle through Pakistan to deliver needed goods to remote schools noticed...
Even these small, rural schools had basic climate science on their chalkboards.
Her take away?
"See. It's not that hard."
Just like every job is a climate job...
And every story is a climate story...
Every education is a climate education.
How can you encourage climate into the education of your local school?

When I presented at The Carbonauts in Seattle last week, I discovered something interesting about my Metaphor type.
Already, I knew that I was about to speak to a bunch of climate folks mostly in the ares of investment, waste, carbon accounting, IT, and other types of roles that lean on Network and Molecule traits.
So chose to present in a way that really showcased my expressiveness. I got a lot of good feedback even though for the most part, storytelling was not a climate action many of them had thought of before.
Then I chatted with someone working on big conservation projects in Africa. And he was intrigued about this idea of storytelling around how to communicate to both US government funders and African communities about the programs, goals, and results. Basically, marketing, grant writing, PR, cultural awareness, and relationship building.
For the most part, I responded with my inner trickster. An important and sacred element. Yet, looking back, I wish my response would have held a more grounded sense of Embodiment.
A deep breath. A solid stance. And a phrase on repeat...
"Tell me more."
This experience taught me a new layer to the Earth Archetypes.
While I've never desired to put anyone in a box, I do want to support people in finding connection and reciprocity. The EAs offer a scaffold for that.
And in that moment of walking the 3 Step Reciprocity Cyle, I discovered more shades of color between the types.
For me trickster and deep breaths express two rather different sides of my personality. But their shades are actually very similar between Metaphor and Embodiment.
With this new understanding, I look forward to painting with more awareness.
