“As of tomorrow, the days begin to get longer as the light of day grows. While the gentle winter sun slowly opens its eyes, let us all bring more light and compassion into the world." - Dacha Avelin
This week is a special edition for the Winter Solstice. Where each step of the Reciprocity Cycle flows easily from one to another. Come join the current...
December 21, 2024.
1:21amPST.
Shortest day of the year.
Longest day of the year.
One moment. 2 extremes.
All depends on your relationship to nature.
In this case north or south.
Being in the north at close to the 45th parallel, I will see 8 hours and 42 minutes of daylight.
Just a little more than 1/3 of the 24 hour day.
But it's also a shift.
As the Earth starts to tilt the other way for a planetary role reversal.
Where in 6 months time, we will reach another extreme.
Just think, if the Earth can do that in just 6 months...
What could we do in a relatively short time when we are in relationship with it?
To tag onto the question above...
As a Metaphor type, I tap into the inward energy of the winter solstice to chose a poem, quote, collage, image, etc to chose as my meditation for the upcoming year.
It's not a goal or a resolution.
But something I want to bring up in conversations...
Explore in reflective occasions...
Chose experiences and adventures around...
Witness in serendipitous moments...
Read books about...
And more.
This year it's words.
In fact 3 pairs of words.
3 in my current reality that I will consciously reduce.
And the 3 that I want to increase.
What exactly they are, I'll keep to myself for now.
And leave the space for you to listen for what may be calling you this next cycle.
One experience I'll be letting go of was this past season at the Portland Farmers Market.
It was wonderful.
What started as an agreement to be paid to be held accountable to get outside and move my body once a week.
While taking on emergent situations deemed "weird"...
Turned into...
Connections with (literally) hundreds of vendors.
With 176 spaces and several staff per booth, it's a lot of talented and passionate entrepreneurs!
Fun and heavy lifting with my fellow motley crew of main market staff.
You know, the ones that actually make the basic infrastructure happen!
New recipes from spring to summer to fall to winter.
As I google searched ingredients in the market + "recipe."
I'm grateful.
It truly is a community of people that make this (not so little) ecosystem work.
Farmers, makers, staff, buskers, customers.
An entire economy that simultaneously sequesters carbon and nourishes bodies.
While nothing is perfect...
This community is certainly a step in the right direction of how we can work together.
And as the staff shrinks to it's bares bones during the slow season...
I will miss being a part of it as my contract comes to a close this Winter Solstice.
I'll also enjoy new opportunity and accountability buddies through the ever growing Earth Archetypes.
Wanna be part of these buddies?

Earth Archetypes has what is called a fiscal sponsor.
This is something that is very common for artists.
Most of us have LLCs (if that) to do what we do.
But a lot of our work (definitely here at Earth Archetypes!) we are driven by a mission that aligns with the goals of many 501(c)3 organizations.
So we artists are able to work with them to accept donations that are fully tax deductible to the donor.
I'm grateful for From the Heart Productions being mine.
And they set up a QR to make it super easy to give.
Your support of any size will be used to create 3 "verticals" in 2025.
Turning the illustrations into coloring books, graphic novels, and even young adult literature
Developing "How on Earth?" as a reality tv show and live recorded podcast that you'll be able to watch (and perhaps even host!)
Creating a video to release on YouTube every month.
These are the doable next steps to make Earth Archetypes as influential as the Love Languages.
