Soup, Clarity & Style

A real conversation always contains an invitation. You are inviting another person to reveal herself or himself to you, to tell you who they are or what they want." - David Whyte

After a couple tough weeks of integrating the election news and connecting will all kinds of impact orientated folks in LA...invitation is feeling really important to me. May the 3 invites inside this week's 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle make you feel welcome to reach out!

Acknowledge Earth Is Our Home

After 9 days in LA, where the dry cold meant you could be outside in the evening with a light sweater...

The cold and rain of being outside working the Portland Farmers' Market the very next morning...

From 6:30am to 3:30pm meant my sacrum was burning despite the layers of under shirts, hoodies, and jacket.

Yet the market was full of shoppers most of the day.

A sense of community and gratitude permeated around the oak lined blocks of over 100 vendors.

I was certainly glad to be there.

Showing up for a relationship with nature, the food, and each other.

I loaded up on fresh produce to stock up after being gone.

Extra bonus that one farmer had both rutabagas and turnips.

This meant I could make Grandma Effie's famous soup!

Reach out for the recipe.

Discover Your Earth Archetype

What's your way of gaining clarity?

I'm guessing it depends on a bunch of stuff.

What the heck the issue is...

Work or personal or existential?

What type of resources you have...

Mentors, colleagues, partners, family, therapists, grit, Youtube?

What your Earth Archetype is may also have an effect.

For me, I have a couple of ways.

Assemble. Bring a bunch of stuff together to collage together.

Even when writing papers in college, I would literally surround myself with my research in a semi circle sitting cross legged on the floor.

Write. Specifically morning pages.

This is a new practice for me but is quickly becoming invaluable.

Ask big questions. Then listen.

Sometimes to voices, other times to synchronicity.

This is how I finally came up with the look I wanted for the 5 Earth Archetypes.

After several failed attempts, I figured out the basic concept and look...

Once I finally decided not to go to Climate Week in NYC...

But instead stay home and get quiet and listen.

It actually came surprisingly fast.

Now, after finding the right illustrator...

We are so close to unveiling them to the world.

This will open up so many possibilities for storytelling.

Join me December 3 to bring them to life!

Work Together in Community

Friends!

What is our special sauce?

If we were to throw a parade to celebrate our climate culture…

Even with all the individuality and uniqueness we have…

What is ONE adjective that sums up our style?

For example, gay culture is often summed up as “sassy.”

It’s on full display in Queer Eye, Drag Queens, and Portland Gay Men’s Chorus.

Another example is how Harley riders are “tough.”

I bet you can see the leather and gnarled look right now.

So what about environmentalists?

Is there a trait that can serve as an umbrella?

That could serve as a helpful narrative?

One that could be infused into a character on the screen?

Please share your ideas!
