“Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt." -- John Muir
Giving myself an hour to complete this week's blog, I didn't think. I just wrote. The theme? Seems to be about releasing/sharing some goodies before I go play in the dirt. Goodies and dirt below.
Acknowledge Earth Is Our Home
Since 2007, I've been calling a very special place on Earth home called Oregon Country Fair.
One of the select places that I refer to as a family reunion of sorts.
Where respect to the Earth from paths to food to recycling are ingrained.
Where costumes and play are encouraged.
Where we learn how to be in community in a whole new way filled with rejuvenation.
See what I did there? It's the 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle in disguise :)
And I'm excited to walk the land for the next few days.
Opening to magic and mystery.
My inner compass.
And a path of reciprocity.
I'm sure I'll have stories on the other side!
This picture is from 2016!
As a storyteller, I've been hinting about something years before Earth Archetypes were a thing.
Since at least since I first conceived of Climate of AWE in 2018.
That solidified as the origin story unfolded.
And now 1.5 years after filming that video, I've gotten comfortable talking about clearly and out loud.
Partially because of the many conversations I've had about "How on Earth?"
Partially because of all the research on climate action behavior change.
Partially because of the power of storytelling and rise of content creators, Twitch streamers, and the like.
Plus, I'm sure my subconscious is working hard most night's I sleep.
Ok.
Enough hinting alrighty.
What is it?
Yes, discovering your Earth Archetype is helpful. The questions. The framework. The relationship.
The way it helps answer the "What are you good at?" circle in Ayana Elizabeth Johnson's venn diagram.
But just like the Love Languages, it's just a place to start. A place to inoculate a concept by immediately answering the age old marketing question.... "What's in it for me?"
The greater power the 5 Earth Archetypes have is becoming our friends through story.
Because the emotions of story reach deep inside us.
Because we relate to characters in everything from sitcoms to Mr Beast to the point they become our friends.
Because what is essentially peer pressure is the greatest motivator for climate action behavior change.
So Earth Archetypes remain the umbrella, and all the stories from coloring books to video games to reality tv shows are to help make them many, many people's friends.
What do you think? Tell me.
In the past week, I've been leaning on folks with strong skills in the Network Type -- specifically around budgeting, fundraising, sponsoring, investing, etc. The "home management" that economy literally translates to.
Finding my way through what is late stage capitalism and also exploring how to integrate systems thinking and birth regenerative economics (which I shared a great informational video on 2 weeks ago).
I've talked with brand integrationists, independent producers, community innovation leaders, line producers, and am even learning how to prompt AI to share critical info from audience development to budget building.
I've dove into line items, prospectuses, operating agreements, stats, CRMs, timelines, and more.
And every step of the way, I'm so grateful that the people I've collaborating with have a respect for story and storytellers.
They help me see what's most important and what's possible because they see the value of what something like "How on Earth?" can do in the world.
And I reciprocate what I can in return.
Honesty about the process. Well earned connections. Compensation. Detailed questions.
