“One good conversation can shift the direction of the change forever." -- Linda Lam
An hour ago when I sat down to write this, I had no idea would land on the page. My inner monologue was "Sure it was a busy week, but what is really useful to share?" Then as I began each section, a vivid memory talked to me. The texture of my backyard. Simone's creative idea. The diversity of impact producers. All shifted my direction. I hope something in the convos does that same for you -- and that you'll share it with me.
Acknowledge Earth Is Our Home
I've been traveling a lot this spring. Austin, TX. Atlanta, GA. Seattle, WA. Northern California. Los Angeles. And I'm grateful for the opportunity and how I've been able to develop Earth Archetypes and "How on Earth?" with each journey.
I'm also grateful to now be home for a Pacific Northwest summer. This temperate rainforest full of lush green, high plateau deserts, mountain tops, and coastlines is such a gift to call home.
And my body is ready for it.
From salads to tacos, I've been enjoying the wealth of delicious greens I got from the market.
I've watered the beautiful native garden in my backyard and felt the lush overgrown grass on my legs and feet. I've only mowed once so far this growing season which cycled the dandelions into the soil. Now textures of green grass, clover, and purple flowers I don't know the name of create a tapestry my body resonates with.
I've modulated the inside temperature by opening windows at night, closing for the day, and covering the sun's rays with curtains.
I've sat at my outdoor table for both meals and computer work under a patio umbrella -- something that makes me feel so cared for each time I enjoy it's shade.
I've paused to listen to the birds and giggled as I heard the scampering of cats, squirrels, and other four leggeds.
It's good to be home as the strawberry moon gifted us with her glow last week and the summer solstice reaches it's peak in a couple days.
As I continue to optimize the "What is Your Earth Archetype?" quiz, I've heard many Metaphors and Weavers in particular share that they really enjoy the questions. That the the idea posed was something they'd never even considered before.
Today shared this with a wonderful friend who got 60% Embodiment, 60% Metaphor, 90% Weaver, 80% Network, and 85% Molecule. She also is someone who lights up when she talks about coloring coding spreadsheets and calculating budget -- while also feeling sad that she is not as imaginative as she would perhaps like to be.
Yet during our talk, I was so thankful for a creative idea she gave me to consider for folks who lean towards the more scientific and systemic side of the Earth Archetypes spectrum.
It has to do with scoring the numbers 0 - 4 -- because numbers are really important to her and are delightfully precise.
Yet, when reading the questions, she struggled with selecting a number because her answer was always considering on what the dependencies were.
So she suggested an important distinction to consider in the next iteration of the quiz...
When making a decision, how heavily would this value be prioritized?
So I'm curious. What do you think that would look like for questions/concepts/values such as...?
I enjoy exploring mysteries with wonder and awe.
Patterns in nature inspire me to make works of beauty and emotion.
I feel ambiguity or the unknown is a place to be curious and discover what is possible.
I explore how systems are greater than the sum of their parts.
Experiments are the best way for me to understand natural phenomena.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
This week I've been chatting with several Impact Producers. People that specialize in helping well told stories create engagement. People that focus on this step of the Reciprocity Cycle everyday.
And I'm struck by how different they all are.
One focuses on blending celebrity power with grassroots goals.
Another articulated stages of different types of producers from development to campaigns.
A potent friend shares that "What I do is marketing, how I do is movement building."
Yet another helped me imagine that I could bring on an impact producer to help behind the scenes while filming to support the work of the protagonist's decision and then use those stories to drive the distribution campaign.
Oh and I have another conversation tomorrow. Curious to see what will emerge!
If you had to summarize your impact style, what would it be? LMK!
What I've been saying lately is that I create experiential containers to gently hand over and ask with a glint in my eye, "What are you going to do with it?"
