In case you haven’t heard yet, this week’s BIG news was the launch of Earth Archetypes ILLUSTRATED!  So we are celebrating with the morning sun, all of you, and (of course) Mateo.  

Acknowledge Earth Is Our Home

Good morning -- no matter what time it is for you now :)

Circadian rhythms are such a powerful thing.

Light and dark.

Day and night.

All based on our planet spinning on it’s axis one full rotation every 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.09053 seconds.

It affects our hormonal fluctuations of cortisol and melatonin throughout the day leading to waking and sleeping. 

Vitamin D is definitely a thing — especially here in the Pacific Northwest.

And a whole lotta other stuff.  

But electricity, LEDs, screens, blue light — all THAT stuff — shifts this natural pattern in such a deceptively subtle way.  

Bit by bit.  

Day by day.  Month.  And Year.

Thus a “new normal” leaves us feeling out of sync.  

Even when my doctor suggested I get sunlight first thing upon waking to help with my high cortisol, I protested at first.

“How am I supposed to do that?”  

Where other modern systems like time, work, school, access, etc feel like they make this practice impossible.  

Even when I tried things like yoga or dancing in my little backyard…

I got frustrated because I “didn’t feel it working…”

Well, I either persisted long enough to adjust my “normal” or…

I finally found the magic combo for me.

Either way…

This picture was me yesterday morning with…

Sunlight and morning pages.  

Where I observe  internally and externally.

Sometimes it’s the leaves and squirrels.

Other times what was going on him my head.

Often a mix of the two until I fill 3 pages.  

Now as winter begins, I can tell this relationship will be tested.  

Today I had to go inside at the top of page 3 because despite layers of hoodies and blankets, my hand got too cold to write.

On rainy mornings, I’m experimenting with writing from a chair right up against the sliding glass doors — sometimes with them open to feel the air on my body.  

And I’m noticing that my body and attitude are both “off” when I don’t do it.  

It’s now a constant reminder of my relationship with the sunlight.

Work Together in Community

Friends!  

In today’s community section, I would love to give a HUGE shout out to Mateo.  

He’s the illustrator of the 5 Earth Archetypes.  

And I am so grateful for his creativity, persistency, and grace.  

After I finally had a vision for the drawings, had assembled a folder full of inspirational pictures, and a bulleted list of ideas….

I did a 3 week trial with 4 artists.  

Mateo’s work rose to the top by how he captured the Network Archetype with talent, enthusiasm, and detail.  

Then we dove into all the rest. 

Iteration after iteration.  

Finessing the stances, expressions, shadings, and especially… the symbols.  

Until we had an archetype of each archetype for us to now play with. 

First up was the “photoshoot” that I’m happy to offer on greeting cards.

You can send them all year round as gifts to celebrate our relationship with the planet. 

Next are one image illustrations of different archetypes working together in different scenarios.  

And I’d love to work with you on that!

It will be a journey that we figure out together.  

I’ve outlined the process a bit on the order form.

And (in addition to the text convo above about creating illustrations with a classroom of kids...)
