Weekly Walk through the Earth Archetypes Journey

A Moment: when you're not Jane Goodall

May 07, 20262 min read

A Line I Heard

"I get an urge to do something but stop myself because I'm not Jane Goodall."

Journey Framing:

Someone just named the exact moment they talk themselves out of caring out loud.

Let's move through it together to build language for real conversations.

Starting with Notice...

NOTICE

What happens when you read this quote?

Maybe you recognize that exact pause. The urge shows up, then immediately the comparison. "But I'm not [insert expert name here]."

Or maybe you feel it in your chest. That familiar drop when you remember you're just... you.

Whatever's showing up, just notice it's there.

CONNECT

Here's what Network sees: You're not the only one doing this math. Most people who care are running the same calculation. "I'm not an expert, so maybe I should just stay quiet." "I'm not doing enough, so what's the point?"

The result? A room full of people who care, all silent, all waiting for someone more qualified.

Jane Goodall spent her life saying: everyone has a role to play. When we each do our thing and come together, that's where the power lives.

TRY

This week, try this:

Notice one urge you have to do something climate-related. Anything. Mention it to someone. Try the reusable thing. Show up to the meeting.

Before the "but I'm not [expert]" voice kicks in, just do the small thing.

Try looking at it through the lens of the 5 Earth Archetypes. They're your crew to help you find what fits right now.

REST

You don't have to match anyone's expertise to matter.

Your urge to do something? That's already enough to start from.

& REPEAT

Watch for this pattern elsewhere.

Notice when you're measuring your action against an expert's life work instead of against silence.

Each time you catch it, the comparison loses a little grip. And you start seeing the question isn't "Am I Jane Goodall?" It's "Am I one more person showing up?"
