“I definitely for the longest time felt like it was so strange that I had so many different like interests and passions. And I wanted to bring these people together with these people who would never talk if I never made them talk. And to receive the Weaver Archetype and see that, hey, other people are also trying to fit puzzle pieces where it might not seem like they absolutely fit, um, definitely felt just reaffirming” - Mari Dela Cruz
Malcolm Gladwell popularized the 10,000-hour rule. It states that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert in a field. Well, I don't know what hour I'm on with the 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle, but this week's blog definitely shows that I'm still learning. And I hope to for the rest of my life.
A view of Sunday’s work station.
And now the story…
I really wanted some time with nature.
I also needed to edit my penultimate Earthmates podcast episode for season 1.
And it finally dawned on me…
After all the times I camped in my car. Finding rest stops or spots with just enough reception…
I took my laptop to a great park that’s a 20 minute walk from my house.
Granted, I wasn’t gonna lug a power source for my laptop up there.
But I got several hours of focused editing done among the trees and afternoon sun.
This is one of many reasons I say that the 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle gets deeper with every cycle.
Sometimes it takes years for us to connect simple dots.
After having interviewed mostly interviewed folks in middle age or elderhood, going indepth with Mari Dela Cruz during her Earthmates interview was really special.
While working with adults can provide a helpful challenge to their habits, actions, and beliefs...
It can lay a foundation of relationship for younger people.
This clip from the podcast episode (which the quote above was pulled from) demonstrates this in a very natural way.
It makes me eager to start getting out the coloring books, easy reader graphic novels, and even young adult literature that I have in mind for Earth Archetypes!
Last week I had 2 great days of training at Oregon Humanities.
16 of us joined together to learn how to facilitate reflective conversations.
The type where everyone can participate, explore a topic with community members, perhaps leave with more questions that we came in with…
Leading to paths for open communication, ongoing inquiry, and more well rounded views on issues ranging from climate to loneliness.
And what a group to practice with! Community organizers. Negotiation professors. DEQ professionals. Museum directors. And more!
I’m excited to cross pollinate with them as we design plans for conversations all around the state of Oregon.
