Hats, Questions & Impact + Profit

“The past is kind enough to give you lessons. The present is kind enough to give you opportunities. The future is kind enough to give you both." - Matshona Dhliwayo

This work of being in a 3 Step Reciprocity Cycle with nature (aka life as a human!) can fluctuate between past, present, and future. Sometimes present Amber thanks past Amber for getting a rainy day hat. Other times I ask big questions of the future. And at more times, I'm in the right place at the right time.

Acknowledge Earth Is Our Home

Saturday was one of those wet days.

Rain almost non-stop while I was working the Portland Farmers Market from 6:30am to 3:30pm.

And my job is literally called "Roamer."

So in the cold and the wet, I put up tents, set up trash cans, entertained vendors, trouble shot issues, and more.

Thank goodness for gear.

From head to ankles, rain gear covered the on and off layers of warmth I needed depending on how much work my body was doing to generate it.

(Knowing my hiking boots were gonna get wet, I thankfully brought along a second pair of wool socks to finish the day.)

And of all this gear, the one I am most thankful for was my HAT.

I actually got tons of compliments on it.

But more importantly, I was my own comfy, gortex coated, fleece lined umbrella.

I don't have an actual shot of me wearing it cuz I was focused on making it through the day. But here's a peak from the website...

Highly recommend!

Discover Your Earth Archetype

"Can we fix our broken relationship with nature through the help of the 5 Earth Archetypes?"

As I got some excellent advice on how to sharpen my pitch and story concept for "How on Earth?", the producer encouraged be to focus in on a provocative question.

This is what I came up with so far.

What do you think?

Would you watch that show?

LMK!

Work Together in Community

Those moments where you just know..."I'm supposed to be here."

That happened for me last week at a 2 day conference called Impact + Profit.

Impact + Profit

Now what the heck is that?

Well, grabbed from the website, the event centers on...

"An old belief in the entertainment industry is that storytellers must choose between impact and profit. The Impact + Profit Conference is here to turn that belief upside down."

And it certainly did!

Working in impact storytelling, I meet a lot of well meaning folks who don't necessarily understand the realities of what it takes to create a story that will get seen by the world -- and thus the desired impact. Funding. Casting. Production. Distribution. Measurement.

This group did.

Heck, I was in the presence of organizations that helped created "designated drivers" as the life saving cultural phenomenon it now is.

For 2 solid days, we got into the nuts and bolts of good stories, money access, and eyeballs.

And all from a transparent and relational way.

People shared their hopes alongside their secrets.

People networked while also holding great eye contact and presence.

People wanted to propel their projects along with a better world.

Impact + Profit

I'm so grateful I took the leap when I discovered 4 of my friends were speaking on panels only 2 weeks before the event.

Thank you Jenni, Julie, Erica, and Benn.

Thank you William, Robert, and Tobias.

Thank you SIE Society, John Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, Population Media Center, and Partners in Kind.

I have more lifelong friendships and pathways for climate storytelling because of you all.

Looking for a 2024 tax write off?

Earth Archetypes has what is called a fiscal sponsor.

This is something that is very common for artists.

Most of us have LLCs (if that) to do what we do.

But a lot of our work (definitely here at Earth Archetypes!) we are driven by a mission that aligns with the goals of many 501(c)3 organizations.

So we artists are able to work with them to accept donations that are fully tax deductible to the donor.

I'm grateful for From the Heart Productions being mine.

And they set up a QR to make it super easy to give.

Your support of any size will be used to create 3 "verticals" in 2025.

  1. Turning the illustrations into coloring books, graphic novels, and even young adult literature

  2. Developing "How on Earth?" as a reality tv show and live recorded podcast that you'll be able to watch (and perhaps even host!)

  3. Creating a video to release on YouTube every month.

These are the doable next steps to make Earth Archetypes as influential as the Love Languages.
