A Moment: when caring feels risky

January 22, 20261 min read

A Line I Heard

“I care a lot about climate change. I just don’t want to be the weird one who brings it up.”

Notice

What happens when you read this quote?

Do you think “I resemble that remark.”?

Or feel into your body to find the location of what it stirs in you like Embodiment would do?

Or start to analyze “What does weird even mean?” which could be a good hypothesis for Molecules.

Connect

Whatever feels true about your response to this quote...

Sadly,

This is a moment where care looks like it might cost belonging.

So how can we turn that on it’s head?

And use it as a moment of connection?

Perhaps take a cue from Metaphor who

imagines a sentence that won’t turn dinner into a climate TED Talk before the bread arrives.

Try

Pick one sentence that fits your voice and keep it handy for the next week:

  • “I’ve been noticing the weather feels different lately.”

  • “This showed up for me because of my garden / bill / commute.”

  • “I’m curious how others think about this.”

Say it once.

Then stop.

Let the room respond — or not.

You’re opening a door for others to walk through.Perhaps even join you for a dance

Rest...

You don’t have to be the opener every time.

Belonging doesn’t require constant proof.

& Repeat

Watch for this pattern elsewhere.

Notice when the real barrier isn’t knowledge, but belonging.

Each time you see it sooner, you get more options for how to move.
