A Moment: when you almost missed the equinox
A Line I Heard
"Oh that's right. It was the equinox this week. Wasn't it?"
Journey Framing:
As I celebrate the equinox at Climate Week NYC, this is (ironically) the response I”m getting a lot.
A room full of people who care deeply about the planet. Who also forgot the planet just did one of its most significant annual things.
How on earth do we give this a makeover? Let's move through it together.
Start with "Notice"...
NOTICE
Maybe that's you. The slight "oh." The mild embarrassment. The genuine curiosity about what you missed.
Or maybe you did mark it, and you're wondering why more people in your life didn't.
Whatever's showing up, just notice it's there.
CONNECT
Most of us scrolled past the equinox. Just like we do the fires and flooding and…
(An observation not an accusation.)
How can people respond to the enormity of disasters when we don’t pause to celebrate good moments in our relationship with the planet?
Here's what Embodiment sees: you can care deeply about the planet and still be out of relationship with it.
Climate is a relationship. The equinox is one of the moments the planet reaches out. What would it mean to reach back?
TRY
This week, try this:
Go outside at the same time two days in a row. Morning or evening when the light is notably in transition.
Notice what's different. The angle. The temperature. The quality of it.
REST
You don't have to mark every planetary moment.
But big shifts like equinoxes and solstices are kinda like birthdays and anniversaries.
& REPEAT
Give it another go. Two more shifts happen this year.
Samhain is October 31, and the Winter Solstice is December 21. Maybe mark your calendar now :)
