A Moment: when depth shows up at the party

A Line I Heard

"Yesterday was so fun and powerful! I really wasn't expecting the depth!"

Journey Framing:

Someone came to How on Earth? LIVE and discovered fun and depth happening at the same time.

Let's move through it together to build language for real conversations.

Starting with "Notice" on the next slide

NOTICE

What happens when you read this quote?

Maybe you recognize that surprise—the moment when you realize you don't have to choose.

Or maybe you're wondering where else you've been living in either/or without realizing it.

Whatever's showing up, just notice it's there.

CONNECT

Someone walked into How on Earth? LIVE and found: yes, this is fun. And yes, this goes deep.

Here's what Weaver sees: We've been trained to think in either/or. Either something's entertaining or it's meaningful. Either you're joyful or you're serious about the crisis.

But there's an improv fundamental that applies here: "yes, and." Not either/or. Both/and. Yes, this is terrifying. And yes, we're still here. Yes, the work is hard. And yes, it can feel alive.

Because "yes, and" isn't a compromise between two things. It's the space where both get to be fully true.

TRY

This week, try this:

Notice one moment where you're stuck in either/or thinking about climate. Either hopeful or realistic. Either taking action or freezing. Either light or serious.

Practice saying: "Yes, this is true. And so is this."

REST

You don't have to resolve the contradictions to move forward.

Holding both is the work. Not choosing between them.

& REPEAT

Watch for this pattern elsewhere.

Notice when you're forcing yourself to choose between things that can both be true. That either/or thinking? It's what keeps you stuck.

Each time you catch it, you practice "yes, and" instead. The contradictions don't resolve—but you stop needing them to. And have a few more surprise (a-ha!) moments that help you keep going.

Stay in Relationship

This blog is part of an ongoing practice. If you’d like, you can receive one Earth Archetype Moment each week by email. Drawn from real conversations, real uncertainty, and real care. Each one moves gently through notice, connect, try, and R&R. You’re welcome to join the free newsletter here:

P.S. Some of these moments also unfold in public, and I record them on video. You can find those on Instagram and YouTube.
